1 Day – Udawalawe — A Day of Wildlife & Elephants

Your one-day wildlife adventure begins with an early morning departure from Galle. Meet your private Tour Guide Lecturer/Chauffeur and travel towards Udawalawe through the beautiful countryside of southern Sri Lanka, passing villages, paddy fields, forests and tropical landscapes.

Elephant Transit Home, Udawalawe Your first visit will be to the Elephant Transit Home, a special rehabilitation centre established to care for orphaned, injured and displaced baby elephants.

Here, you will learn about the important work carried out to protect and rehabilitate young elephants that have lost their mothers or are unable to survive independently in the wild.

During the visit, you can observe the young elephants during their scheduled milk-feeding session and learn how they are cared for as they grow. The main purpose of the centre is not to keep the elephants permanently; once they are strong and independent enough, suitable elephants are gradually prepared for release back into the wild.

Udawalawe National Park Safari After visiting the Elephant Transit Home, continue to Udawalawe National Park for an exciting wildlife safari in a 4WD Safari Jeep with an experienced Safari Driver who knows the national park well.

Udawalawe is famous for its large population of wild Asian elephants, open grasslands, forests, wetlands and areas surrounding the Udawalawe Reservoir. During your safari, you may encounter wild elephants, spotted deer, sambar, water buffalo, crocodiles, monkeys, wild boar, birds of prey, and many other resident and migratory birds.

Return Journey to Galle After completing the safari, begin your journey back to Galle with your private Tour Guide Lecturer/Chauffeur, passing through rural villages and tropical landscapes to arrive back in Galle in the evening.
