1 Day – Sri Lanka’s South Coast — A Day of Discovery

Your South Coast adventure begins in the morning with a private departure from Galle accompanied by your Tour Guide Lecturer/Chauffeur.

Galle Dutch Fort Start your day by exploring the historic Galle Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s most fascinating landmarks.

Walk along the impressive fort ramparts overlooking the Indian Ocean and explore its charming narrow streets, colonial buildings, historic churches, old houses, cafés and boutique shops. Your guide will explain the fascinating history of the fort and its Portuguese, Dutch and British influences.

Hikkaduwa Beach & Sea Turtles Continue along the beautiful southern coastline to Hikkaduwa, famous for its golden beach, coral reef and marine life.

Enjoy some time by the beach and, where conditions allow, observe wild sea turtles in the coastal waters. Hikkaduwa is well known for its regular turtle sightings, making this a wonderful opportunity to see these magnificent marine animals in their natural environment.

Madu River Safari – Mangroves & Ramsar Wetland Continue to the Madu River, one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful wetland ecosystems. Enjoy a relaxing boat safari through the Madu River and its network of waterways, travelling through lush mangrove forests and small islands.

The Madu River ecosystem is internationally recognised as a Ramsar wetland, supporting an impressive variety of plants, fish, birds and other wildlife.

Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project Continue along the coast to Kosgoda, an important area for sea turtle conservation. Visit a Turtle Conservation Project and learn about the different species of sea turtles found along Sri Lanka’s coastline, their nesting habits, hatchling protection, and conservation efforts.

Return Journey to Galle After completing your South Coast sightseeing, continue the scenic journey back to Galle, arriving in the late afternoon or evening.
